Board Elections

The LONAP Board consists of four elected directors and one appointed director.

• Elected director David Croft is standing down by rotation.
  • David is eligible to stand for election again and has indicated his intention to do so.

ONE nomination was received:

   • Proposed by Andy Davidson of Ask4 Ltd
   • Seconded by Sebastien Lahtinen of NetConnex Broadband Ltd

• There is ONE seat available on the LONAP board and we have received ONE nomination.

• Since there is a single candidate standing for one vacant vacant seat, we will elect (or not elect) David Croft to the LONAP board of directors by means of a special resolution requiring a simple majority at the upcoming AGM, as is our usual convention. This has been added to the ballot as an additional resolution.

Election Statements

David CROFT

I think it’s fair to say that my first term has been nothing like I expected when I gave my election speech back in January 2020. I’m proud to have served with the team that kept LONAP steadfast through uncertain times, maintaining our acclaimed reliability while still delivering conservative price reductions each year. I’m especially pleased to have established 10 GE as the new entry level at the same price as 1 GE - keeping legacy speeds available to those who need them, while paving the way for easy and cost-effective upgrades where possible.

My role has also turned out somewhat differently from expected. Some of it has been visible and planned. The Articles updates we delivered in 2020 offered the opportunity to include other governance improvements. There is more work to do on transparency and this will be a focus of my second term. Less visibly, I have helped guide the team into new sales and marketing territory during a time when traditional means of expanding the membership was not possible. Updates to the website, the new blog, new marketing campaigns, and events online and offline, are all still works in progress and I will continue to steer these.

I stand by everything I said in my 2020 speech; I still believe LONAP needs to evolve its services to continue bringing value to members in a world where peering is no longer a simple monetary equation. We have been laying the groundwork for this, although a time of extreme uncertainty has not been ideal for rapid change. I am confident that by the time my second term ends, LONAP will be on better footing to continue its relevance in delivering interconnection on a mutual basis, with additional services that both bring value to existing members (without costing them any more) and attract new members. None of this will however be detrimental to or at the expense of LONAP’s core mission of interconnection; this is simply an evolution. LONAP’s focus on a single platform is one of its well-loved strengths and I firmly support it.

For me, LONAP has always been the IXP that runs quietly unnoticed, keeping its head down and “just working”. The team often don’t give themselves enough credit and I’d like to use this opportunity to congratulate them on overcoming some unprecedented challenges these last years while still running quietly and “just working”. At the same time, this also means that LONAP does not get as much exposure as louder exchanges. Marketing and community-building will be a continued focus for my second term, building on the successful work achieved so far.

I bring a variety of strengths to the LONAP board, not just technical, and a breadth of experience as a consultant to networks of various sizes. I am proud of my contribution so far, and I hope for your support for a second term.
